Youth Lacrosse Program
This Youth Lacrosse program is being provided at no cost to kids in the McKinley Park area as a way to introduce them to a brand new sport! We will focus on teaching the basics of lacrosse and developing their abilities and teamwork, but also talk about personal and community development throughout. Our goal to for these kids to have a great time learning something fun and new to do, and hopefully some enjoy it so much that they want to keep learning more!
We will have up to 50 kids broken down into three age groups: 8 and 9 year olds, 10 and 11 year olds, and 12 and 13 year olds. We will have three trainers, one for each group. The trainers will be high school seniors/lacrosse players, college students/lacrosse players, or trainers/coaches of current high school or traveling teams with more than 4 years of Lacrosse organized playing or organized official training.
The first 45 minutes will be on focusing team work, proper stick holding, proper, catching, proper passing. Then there will be a ten minute water break. Next 45 minutes will be on teaching the rules and (5 v 5 or 3 v 3) Speed Lacrosse; one goalie, and four or two team members per side. We will use one large baseball outfield for doing the three short fields.
